LDC, a private equity firm, has made an investment in Boston Energy, a technical services provider for the wind energy industry. Based in Beverley, Boston Energy specializes in employing and training specialized technicians to support the construction and maintenance of onshore and offshore wind farms worldwide. Their client base includes major original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and wind farm operators.
With technicians supporting wind turbines across four continents, Boston Energy has been involved in over 100 projects globally since 2012. The company recently secured a significant contract to support the Dogger Bank Wind Farm, the largest offshore wind farm in the world located in the North Sea.
LDC's investment will empower Boston Energy to capitalize on growth opportunities in its core markets and contribute to the transition towards a clean energy economy. The firm is supporting Boston Energy's Chief Executive Julian Cattermole in a management buyout from the broader group of Bostonair companies. Mark Parkes, the founder of Bostonair Group, will remain involved as a major shareholder and non-executive director.
Mark Parkes commended the industry's evolution since the inception of the business, emphasizing their commitment to customers. With LDC's support, Boston Energy aims to continue delivering tailored services and benefit from LDC's expertise in supporting Yorkshire-based businesses and its affiliation with Lloyds Banking Group, a significant supporter of the UK offshore wind industry.
Julian Cattermole highlighted the rapid growth of the wind energy industry and the increased opportunities for Boston Energy to expand its service offerings in response to rising demand. The partnership with LDC will enable the company to respond swiftly to this growing demand and invest in their expert technicians who form the foundation of their customer relationships.
The investment was led by LDC's Dan Smith, partner and head of Yorkshire, along with investment director James Marshall and investment manager Anthony West. LDC considers Boston Energy a high-quality service provider in a sector that plays a crucial role in the global transition towards achieving Net Zero. The success of Boston Energy showcases the potential of a local company with international reach, contributing to the recognition of the Humber region as a global renewable energy hub.
KPMG provided corporate finance, legal, and tax services to advise Boston Energy and the sellers, while LDC received advisory support from Clearwater International, Grant Thornton, Addleshaw Goddard, and Calash.
HSBC's regional team, led by James Scholes, is providing support for the transaction through senior debt and working capital facilities.
